A Night of Sake and Culture: Yamamori x IJA x Sarika Seki Hussey
A Taste of Japan: Sake Workshop Highlights at Yamamori
On a vibrant evening in April, we had the pleasure of hosting a special Sake Workshop in collaboration with the Ireland Japan Association (IJA) and renowned sake sommelier Sarika Seki Hussey. This event was a celebration of Japanese tradition and a warm gathering of curious minds and passionate food and drink lovers in Dublin.
The atmosphere was electric, filled with excitement and learning and shared appreciation for the art of sake. Guests had the opportunity to explore a variety of sake types while learning about their unique characteristics, brewing methods, and cultural significance. Sarika-san’s deep knowledge and engaging storytelling made the night special, sparking meaningful conversations and curiosity for many new to sake.
We were also proud to have our incredible team on board to bring the event to life.
Sake 101: A Journey into the World of Sake with Sarika-san
At our recent Sake Workshop, we had the honour of welcoming Sarika Seki Hussey, a certified sake sommelier, who guided our guests through a deep and fascinating introduction to the world of sake.
Before diving into the tasting, we kicked things off with a light and fun sake quiz. To our surprise (and delight!), four guests came out as winners—correctly answering questions that even seasoned drinkers might find tricky. It was a clear sign: our guests were true sake lovers with genuine curiosity and passion.
With the energy high and spirits lifted, Sarika-san began her presentation, walking us through the essential elements of sake—from its rich history and traditional brewing methods, to the variety of sake types and how each one differs in taste, aroma, and ideal pairing.
Her explanations were thoughtful and easy to follow, filled with fascinating details that brought a deeper appreciation to each pour. Guests were able to taste and compare different sake styles, understanding what makes each one unique.
From fruity and aromatic to smooth and dry, the selection showcased the incredible diversity and depth of Japanese sake. Sarika-san’s warm and engaging storytelling made the experience not just educational, but also deeply memorable.
Whether it was a guest’s first time tasting sake, or they were already familiar with it, everyone left with new knowledge and excitement to explore more.
Behind the Scenes: A Night to Remember at the Sake Workshop
Team Yamamori truly appreciated every single guest who joined us for the Sake Workshop. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, curiosity, and a shared love for Japanese culture.
Some guests even travelled all the way from Limerick to attend—such dedication touched our hearts. Others arrived in beautiful Japanese-style kimono, adding a graceful and authentic touch to the evening. And of course, we were thrilled to meet so many true sake lovers, eager to taste, learn, and connect.
It’s these special moments and small details that made the night unforgettable. Thank you for being part of it—and for supporting our passion for Japanese tradition and hospitality.
