Tengu Mural: A Fresh New Look

An Iconic Artwork, Reimagined for a New Era

Hidden behind Yamamori North City, Tengu is one of Dublin’s most iconic nightlife spots. By day, it’s a private and exclusive space, but it transforms into a vibrant nightclub and bar by night, offering an unforgettable experience in the city's heart.

With a newly updated mural, Tengu remains a must-visit photo spot, blending Japanese-inspired aesthetics with Dublin’s dynamic club scene. Open every Friday and weekend, the venue hosts top DJs, live music, and an electric atmosphere.

Tengu is also available for private hire, making it the perfect setting for corporate events, birthday parties, and special celebrations. Whether you're looking for a night out or a unique venue for your event, Tengu delivers an unforgettable experience.

Why was the mural changed?

Yamamori was approached by Asahi Superdry to work with us to bring to life a new mural. We have a longstanding relationship with Asahi Superdry as we stock their products across our Yamamori sites. The wall had not been painted in many years, and as the club has evolved a huge amount post-lockdown, it was time for a new fit! After sending a brief to three artists, we decided to work with the amazingly talented Klo Wi and Holly Pereira.

Who created it?

Meet Holly!

Holly Pereira is a Singaporean-Irish illustrator and muralist based in Dublin, Ireland.  Through her work, Pereira seeks to create bright and exuberant environments we are invited to explore.  Her hand-painted murals often reference folk art and typography, weaving narrative throughout the mural through the carefully considered use of motif and palette. In addition to commercial illustration, her mural work can be found on walls all over Ireland and in far-flung places like Serbia and Sardinia.  She is a proud member of The Minaw Collective, an all-female street art collective based in Ireland. She also co-presented This is Art Club!, a show for young people for Ireland’s national broadcaster, RTE.

Meet Klo Wi!

Klo Wi is a muralist and illustrator, based in Dublin. Her work explores the human form through various mediums, from digital illustration to murals and street art.

If they have any comments about their work, please share their words.

“Inspired by the Hyakki Yagyo - Night Parade of 100 Demons - a procession of supernatural beings in Japanese folklore. Sometimes referred to as a parade, other times as a riot, Wikipedia says, "As a terrifying eruption of the supernatural into the real world, it is similar (though not precisely equivalent) to the concept of pandemonium in English", which is a pretty apt way to describe Dublin nightlife!

We also wanted to represent the importance of music and sound on Dublin’s night culture, of which Tengu has been an important and longstanding part.”

Emma's comment on the mural

I have been managing and programming Tengu for the last four years so I know the place inside out. When I saw Holly's and Chloe's pitch for the mural, I knew it was a perfect fit for the venue. The entire team at Tengu are super happy about the mural. It fits in with Tengu's personality, quicky, mysterious, vibrant and unique. It was a big pleasure to work with Klo Wi and Holly Pereira and also to collaborate with the Asahi Superdry team on this creative project.
